Powerpuff Girls Test

Powerpuff Girls Test from Megan Lawton

When I got home from Blue Sky, I did a test for CN's Powerpuff Girls. Another alum from SJSU got the job instead, (go Shrunkenheads!) but PPG was one of my favorite shows as a kid and this was super fun to do.

Ultimate Spider-Man Storyboard Test

Ultimate Spider-Man Test from Megan Lawton

I recently had the exciting opportunity to test for Ultimate Spider-Man. I didn't get the job, but it was a great chance to exercise my action boarding chops. I'm a huge fan of Spider-Man, and the show is really funny, so it was really fun and challenging test to take. Maybe I didn't get the job this time, but that's definitely not going to stop me from seeking out more Marvel Animated opportunities!

November 2014

I've done a few story tests recently, and I'll probably share those once I find out what's happening but until then, here's some fun warm up stuff from the last month. Some of it is stupider than others but that's perfectly fine by me.
I'm REALLY into the Spider-Girl Gwen Stacy story. Spider-Man's been one of my favorite heros since I was a kid so it's AWESOME to see that origin story from the perspective of Gwen if she had been bitten instead of Peter. Plus that costume is bad ass, and is at the top of my cosplay list for 2015.

Some things happened when I was catching up on Regular Show and Adventure Time.

I'm working on a series of character designs based on the Cosplay Pikachu from the new Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games, just for funzies. I never played the original Gen III, so this is my first time in Hoenn and I am loving it.

CSU Media Arts + Goodbye Blue Sky

We did it! And by "it" I mean we won first place in animation for our film End of the Vine at the CSU Media Arts Festival in LA this weekend. I'm super proud of my team, and thank you to my co-director Megan Hart, and team mates Jeanette McKillop, Jake Baker, Nick Marshall and Jared Mills for attending the festival and supporting the film we worked so hard on. You guys are amazing.

I'd also like to mention that my time at Blue Sky has come to an end. The last four months have been a crazy ride of meeting new people and learning more about storyboarding in a short amount of time than I have in the last year since I decided that this was what I wanted to do. We spent some time working with mentors on a training project before switching over to boarding on a new Blue Sky film coming out in 2017! I have to wait a while, but it's my first film credit, which is really exciting.
While Blue Sky was an amazing studio to work for and I was offered an extension, I realized the east coast was not where I needed to be, and I am now back in sunny California! And thrilled to be here.

Here's my two scenes from the training portion of the program.

The four trainees were each given a section of a script called "Oak Tree", this section is the last scene before the end of act one.

Part Two of Blue Sky's "Oak Tree Assignment", which follows Rip figuring who is left on the tree after it's uprooted in the storm and dropped into the middle of the ocean.

Hellaween + Inktober

About a week or two ago I decided I needed a group of completely self-indulgent characters to mess around with. By combining my love of monsters, NorCal hipster trash and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater I was able to bring Hellaween into my world. A world where a gang of monster punks and two streetwise humans got a beef to settle. I'm not quite sure where I want this world to end up, whether it's comics, storyboards, or maybe even animated shorts, I'm certainly going to have fun learning who these characters are. Plus I needed an excuse to draw vampires in hawaiian shirts.

To help me figure out who these nerds are, I'm doing Inktober! One drawing a day featuring at least one of these five characters. As an added bonus, I'm using this Halloween themed art challenge I found on tumblr to help keep me inspired through the month. This is going to be fun!

Day 1: Fall Leaves

Day 2: Crow

Day 3: Pumpkin

Summer Fun Stuff

Now that I'm done with school I'm relearning how to draw for fun! So here's some stuff I've enjoyed through the last couple months.
Completely indulgent self-instert sketches after seeing How to Train Your Dragon 2. The dragon racing really grabbed me.
And I got DEEP into Guardians of the Galaxy. The old comics and the movie, just the whole franchise honestly. Rocket and Groot are just too precious.

Couple sketches I liked from tumblr. I miss my west coast friends! But I should be seeing you all in November!

I've been pretty excited about Gerard Way's new solo album, I loved the singles. My pre-order just arrived and I'm looking forward to listening to the whole thing.
This was a really really fun commission to do. Ghost is my favorite Pokemon type by a lot, and it was a real treat to be asked to draw them. The friend who commissioned this is planning to get it tattooed on himself, and I'm crazy excited to see that.

I'm working on Darkness and Dekay pages and another new side project, so there should be updates on that soon!
